QNET Felicitates Mr. Narayanan Krishnan for Akshaya Home

Akshaya Home provides shelter, food and care to around 400 destitute and homeless in-andaround Madurai

QNET, a pioneer in e-commerce based direct selling, through its CSR arm RYTHM Foundation today felicitated Mr. Narayanan Krishnan, a CNN top ten hero for the year 2010 for his tireless effort in providing shelter, food and care for the helpless, homeless, sick, elderly, mentally-ill and destitute in-and-around Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
Mr. Krishnan is an Indian chef-turned-social worker who has pursued this cause for over a decade now
and recently, through donations received from various organizations, inaugurated the Akshaya Home
spread over a 60,000 sq.ft. area campus in Nagartheertham, Kodimangalam village, Madurai on the 9th of May 2013. RYTHM foundation donated a total of USD 65,000 to further this mission. In recognition of
this donation, Mr. Krishnan named the block housing the kitchen, dining and store-room as ‘RYTHM
Block’. Ms. Donna Imson, Executive Chairperson of QNET and also a Trustee for RYTHM foundation felicitated Mr. Krishnan by awarding him a ‘Certificate-of-Merit’ today after a guided tour of the facility housing over 400 residents.
Mr. Krishnan was awarded QNET’s V-RYTHM Award in 2011, a prize given to humanitarians that
epitomize charity, compassion and mercy. He promptly announced he would spend the USD 25,000
award money to complete construction of the facility. Shortly afterwards, Ms. Imson visited Madurai to
spend a day feeding the homeless alongside Mr. Krishnan, and QNET pledged to pay the additional USD
40,000 in building costs required. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Narayanan Krishnan said, “I am equally touched and encouraged by this gesture. The donations received from QNET’s RYTHM foundation helped us complete the block that houses the kitchen, dining and store-room areas measuring 3,000 sq.ft. where we serve three meals and tea to over 400 people every day. Ms. Donna’s visit after the formal inauguration in May earlier is indicative of the active interest QNET has in our purpose.” Also speaking on the occasion Ms. Donna Imson commented, “From the first time we met Narayanan Krishnan, we have been humbled by the impact one man’s actions can have on the community. His selflessness, dedication and commitment to serving others are truly inspiring. Krishnan is truly making a difference and we are happy that QNET is in a position to help him do more.”For more information about how to help Mr. Krishnan and Akshaya ease the suffering of Madurai’s most needy street people, please visit: www.akshayatrust.org
